Yeah Team Feel Your Boobies!

We had a great team meeting last night, our first one. Tons and tons of great fundraising ideas, sharing info for the first time walkers, etc. We all consulted our schedules and inked in some training walks. All I can say is this group of women is going to ROCK the Seattle 3 Day! Don't forget to check out our Team page on a regular basis. You can follow our training and fundraising efforts and even make a donation, if you wish. No donation is too small...... :)

Some things in the works are a GIGANTIC garage sale, possible golf tournament and the Tulip Festival Street Fair. Oh, we can't forget the Mount Vernon and Anacortes Farmers Markets. Look for us there!

Here's to finding a cure for breast cancer....Just imagine...wouldn't that be wonderful?

Happy Sunday. I'm off to work in the yard.

Let the blogging begin...

I've done it...I've finally set up a blog for our team, FEEL YOUR BOOBIES. As you have probably guessed, we are a group of women who live north of Seattle who have committed to walking 60 miles in 3 days all over hilly, rainy Seattle. Why? The goal is simply this: To make breast cancer a thing of the past. We are walking, raising awareness and fundraising for the Susan G Komen 3 Day For the Cure so that our future generations never have to worry. A Cure. Here we will share our fundraising and training efforts. Yes we want to involve as many people as we can. Yes, we want to share our highs and lows and blisters. Yes, we want you to consider donating to this wonderful cause.

I'd been thinking, dreaming, talking about doing this walk for several years and in 2009 I decided to make it reality. When I mentioned it to my darling, his reply was "Why? Why would you want to do that?" So....as I'm am prone to do, I started spouting statistics. "One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. So, Darling, please name the eight women you are closest to." Of course, he named me, his mom and two sisters, my daughter, his nieces and Sabrina, our foreign exchange student from 2004-2005. At that point I told him to stop, that he passed his limit of 8. Then I said "Now, pick the one that you think will get breast cancer." That about stopped him cold. And so the registration and fundraising began for 2009. I wanted his support. I didn't need it, but I certainly wanted it and I got it. This was a family endeavor as it takes time and money away from your family as you are training and preparing and buying those 3 pairs of expensive walking shoes.

And so....three of us trained and fund raised in 2009; myself and the two Julies. Julie Z was unable to walk due to an injury, but together the three of us raised over $10,000!! We are very proud of that. With our friends and families to cheer us on, Julie F and I walked our little soles off, each and every step of those 60 miles in 2009 and we are back for more in 2010. We've gathered up several more walkers and are really looking forward to doing this again with an amazing group of women.

For those of you who have never been to the Pacific Northwest, it is an amazing place! The sights, the sounds, the smells.....and the hills, ahhh, the hills. Last year we trained A LOT, and I do mean A LOT. We figure we walked over 700 miles each during our training months. However, we were still surprised at the hills we climbed in the 2009 Breast Cancer 3 Day walk.
